ABOUT FRESH AIR SCULPTURE

Set up by art collectors, Lucy and David Abel Smith, the first Fresh Air Sculpture was held in the Quenington Old Rectory gardens in 1992. Acclaim for the show’s originality and innovative mixture of traditional, modern and cutting-edge outdoor sculpture has grown year by year and Fresh Air Sculpture is now an established and much anticipated fixture in the art events calendar. Fresh Air Sculpture became a charitable trust, under Quenington Sculpture Trust, in 1997.

The Old Rectory gardens are looking gorgeous so why not come to Quenington for OPEN GARDENS between 2-6pm this Sunday, 21st May. Enjoy a gentle stroll around the gardens and some light refreshment.

There will be volunteers selling tea and cake in aid of the local charity, Friends of Fairford and Lechlade Communities @fflccharity and there’ll also be a plant sale.

No need to book, entry is £7, with children under 16 free. Sorry, no dogs in the gardens and parking will be on The Green.

Fresh Air Sculpture are inviting applications for the Fresh Air Sculpture 2024 Bursary. A limited number of Bursaries of up to £1,000 each are available for artists who wish to create new work that is substantially different from their usual practice.

Please SHARE this post with artists and sculptors who might be interested.

We are looking for artists whose work can be exhibited outside and is of a scale suitable for an outdoor garden setting. A bursary award would mean automatic inclusion in Fresh Air Sculpture 2024.

Please submit your proposal to Curator@freshairsculpture.com providing an overview of your work, outlining how you would use the bursary and why this bursary is important to you.

Include a CV, up to 5 images of recent work and a budget for your proposal. Please note this bursary award does not cover transport costs. The deadline for applications is 1st September 2023 and successful applicant(s) will be notified by 18th September 2023

If you want to get out and visit a beautifully curated sculpture garden and gallery this month, here’s a gem that you’ll enjoy if you’re in South Devon.

Delamorearts23 is celebrating its 22nd annual May exhibition with a stunning display of work from renowned sculptors and The South West Academy of Fine & Applied Art @swacart

This year’s exhibition includes 430 pieces of work from 135 sculptors and artists, on display in the gardens, in the house and in the Stables Gallery.

The Old Kitchen Cafe offers excellent refreshments including beautiful homemade cakes, lovingly baked by the local WI, along with tea, coffee, cold drinks, light lunches, ice-creams on hot days and a friendly smile

Here are all the details you need…
@delamoreart is open from 1st May-31st May, between 10:30am-4:30pm at Delamore House, Ivybridge PL21 9QT. There’s a £10 entrance fee, which includes a catalogue worth £5 for visitors.

The exhibition has chosen to support and raise awareness for a local charity for 2023, the Plymouth and Cornwall Cancer Fund, hosting Botanical themed workshops and a Postcard Auction. See www.delamore-art.co.uk for more details.

Art For Cure, a national breast cancer charity bas

Art For Cure, a national breast cancer charity based in Suffolk, is staging one of its largest exhibitions in the house and gardens of @helminghamhallgardens this weekend.

Over 50 hugely talented sculptors are exhibiting their work in these stunning gardens, including our very own curator and sculptor, @stephaniecushing and an artist familiar to Fresh Air Sculpture, @carolpeace_art We’ll share more sculptors work in our stories so follow along to see what’s on display

Sculptures will be available to purchase with 30% of the sale going directly to support the work of the charity. Tickets for @artforcure are available for Sun and Mon (Fri and Sat sold out) and if you’re not able to make it this weekend, the exhibition will continue in the gardens until 17th September 2023.

Come along to @rareplantfair this Sunday, 16th April between 11am - 4pm at The Old Rectory, Quenington. There will be some great exhibitors including RHS Gold medallists, National Collection Holders and lots of gardening accessories. The Fair supports the work of local medical charity, Cobalt Imaging @cobaltsupporters

Enjoy a day in our beautiful gardens, wander around the many plant stalls and make time for a cup of tea and some homemade refreshments. Whether you’re an avid gardener or an enthusiastic novice, you’ll find plenty to enjoy at the plant fair, on your day out at The Old Rectory, Quenington.

Here’s everything you need to know…

Admission - £6 per adult includes the Fair and Garden. Children under 16 Free.

Buy your tickets on arrival at the gate - no need to prebook!

Sorry, but no dogs are allowed in the Garden or Plant Fair (except assistance dogs).

Parking - Main car park is at the Old Rectory, with overflow parking on the village green (5 min walk). Blue badge -parking is available at the house, on a first come, first serve basis. Please follow the directions of the parking assistants when you arrive at the Fair.
Plant pick-up point available in the main car park.

Accessibility - The majority of the Fair and Gardens are accessible to wheelchairs and those with mobility issues. Accessible toilet available.

Event Catering - Light lunches, cakes and hot and cold drinks will be available from The Pool House provided by our partner charity Cobalt.

Charity - Proceeds from the Fair support the work of Cobalt Health.

Wonderful to catch up with former Fresh Air Sculpt

Wonderful to catch up with former Fresh Air Sculpture exhibitor and expert letter carver, Lisi Ashbridge @its_written_in_stone this afternoon, demonstrating with fellow @qestcraft scholars @craftfestival at the Town Hall in Cheltenham.

For avid fans, Lisi will be teaching a 3-day course, ‘An introduction to letter carving in stone or slate with Lisi Ashbridge’ at Highgrove Craft on behalf of @theprincesfoundation from 2-4th June

Fresh Air Sculpture would like to pay tribute to r

Fresh Air Sculpture would like to pay tribute to renowned stone carver/artist and sculptor Rory Young who sadly passed away on 23rd of February.

Rory was a man of passions - for his friends, his surroundings, new places and for stone in which he was steeped. He exhibited 3 lettering pieces with us last year, all of which sold.

Rory was an absolute delight to work with, his attention to detail was second to none and his intelligence, spirit and knowledge were indomitable.

He was a genius, a master of his craft, a great intellect and just a lovely man who will be greatly missed by all at Fresh Air Sculpture.
