CURRENT EDUCATION WORK 2020/2021

Current Education Work 2020/2021

The education programme is keen to maintain its contact with schools through creative projects even when it isn’t a show year. In 2020 we launched an Artist in residence project, funded by the Fresh Air charity, which involved putting an artist into secondary schools with their GCSE years. This was particularly beneficial due to the lack of opportunities the students had due to the pandemic and home schooling.

One head of Art, Andree Slade, Kingswood, Swindon said: “Amanda inspired our students to think creatively and to challenge themselves when working with different media. Students responded to her relaxed and nurturing approach to art. It was great to see them engage with a professional artist and to believe in what they were doing“

The schools selected for this project were Kingswood, Swindon; Kingshill, Cirencester; Farmors School, Fairford. If you are interested in applying to be part of this project, email Emily Bird (Curator of Education) education@freshairsculpture.com

2021

Due to the disappointing news that we have had to postpone this year, the education team were keen to maintain support in schools and therefore plan to run 4 x 1 day workshops in primary schools in the local area in June 2021. Schools this year that have been selected are: Watermoor Primary School, Cirencester; Chesterton Primary School, Cirencester; Carterton Primary School, Carterton; Fairford Primary School, Fairford. The project is based around the book Lost Words, Robert Macfarlane and will help children to explore developing skills in Arts and craft through creating their own book and portfolio of ideas, collections and skills. Sue Green and Emily Bird will be supporting these workshops in schools.
