Chesterton 2021 Outreach
As schools across the country experienced lockdown and closures, they concentrated on delivering the core curriculum, and as a result, in particular children from disadvantaged backgrounds were left unable to access the creative curriculum.
When schools reopened in the summer of 2021 Fresh Air Education offered to fund a one-day workshops in disadvantaged schools to allow children to come off timetable and fully immerse themselves in Art for the day. Sue Green, a local textiles artist, used the book Lost Words by Robert Farlane as her inspiration and the children, using a variety of mixed media techniques created their own books with hidden words and imagery. The children loved the experience and fully embraced the opportunity to create some wonderful results, reignited their abilities to show self expression through art, which we feel is so important.
