ABOUT FRESH AIR SCULPTURE

Set up by art collectors, Lucy and David Abel Smith, the first Fresh Air Sculpture was held in the Quenington Old Rectory gardens in 1992. Acclaim for the show’s originality and innovative mixture of traditional, modern and cutting-edge outdoor sculpture has grown year by year and Fresh Air Sculpture is now an established and much anticipated fixture in the art events calendar. Fresh Air Sculpture became a charitable trust, under Quenington Sculpture Trust, in 1997.

Last year, at Fresh Air Sculpture, we were thrille Last year, at Fresh Air Sculpture, we were thrilled that Steppes Travel @steppes_travel generously offered a £500 bursary to one of our exhibitors. They chose ceramicist, Elaine Bolt @elainebolt as the recipient. Elaine had made and set up 15 ceramic ‘trees’, each around 4 foot tall and held together with central iron rods. They were installed for the Fresh Air Sculpture show in the river by the water mill and together they formed a striking installation entitled ‘River Trees’. We wanted to know what plans Elaine has to make use of the bursary funding so we asked her to share with us where the money will take her. Click the link in our bio to read all about them. . Posted @withregram • @jackson.fawkes Creating ou Posted @withregram • @jackson.fawkes Creating outdoor glass sculptures all started with an invitation from Lucy Abel Smith to exhibit @freshairsculpture 2001 following a recommendation to her from Brigid Howarth then @craftscouncil . • Living fairly close to Quenington, where the biennial Fresh Air Sculpture exhibition is held, we visited in advance to absorb inspiration from the grounds of Quenington Old Rectory and familiarise ourselves with the exhibition space and locations for positioning our work. • ‘Silent Secret’ by Sally was bought by Lucy and David Abel Smith for their art collection and is still sited in its original position. • The Abel Smiths have been promoting glass in the outdoors since the beginning of Fresh Air Sculpture in the 90’s. • • We have a few outdoor sculptures currently available.
