ABOUT FRESH AIR SCULPTURE

Set up by art collectors, Lucy and David Abel Smith, the first Fresh Air Sculpture was held in the Quenington Old Rectory gardens in 1992. Acclaim for the show’s originality and innovative mixture of traditional, modern and cutting-edge outdoor sculpture has grown year by year and Fresh Air Sculpture is now an established and much anticipated fixture in the art events calendar. Fresh Air Sculpture became a charitable trust, under Quenington Sculpture Trust, in 1997.

She uses adhesive vinyl and a scalpel to create stencils with which to apply decorative enamel paint.

Layton will make her debut at Collect with @londonglassblowing, alongside her father, British glassblowing legend Peter Layton, and her husband, glass artist Tim Rawlinson. Step inside her south London studio and find out more about her unique process via the link in bio, or head to the @craftscouncil website.

Presented by @sarahmyerscoughgallery at @collectartfair @craftscouncil
‪26 February - 2 March 2021‬

Events this past year are giving us all a chance to pause and reflect. The sustainable approach I take in my practice and my connection to nature’s seasonal shifts has been heightened and reinforced further during this time. These woven organic forms are in essence about latent and potential energy. Energy within the soil and earth translated into seeds and shooting growth. The tips of the Birch stems are left exposed respecting the beauty of the material and to suggest both fragility and transience.

‪This international exhibition will explore the profound beauty of imperfection and vulnerability through a multiplicity of materials. The artists consider this question through their connection to the natural world, its resilience and fragility, while also acknowledging lost links between humanity and nature.‬

Thank you for the outpouring of support for our de Thank you for the outpouring of support for our decision to postpone Fresh Air Sculpture until June 2022. See our last post.

Every email, message and comment has made a huge difference and has re enforced that decision. THANK YOU !

Wishing you safe and happy weekends.

is with true sadness and regret, that we have made is with true sadness and regret, that we have made the difficult decision to postpone this year’s Fresh Air Sculpture Show until 2022.

After very careful and deliberate consideration, we have decided that the safety and wellbeing of our team, our community here in the village of Quenington, our participating sculptors, artists and makers, and of course our visitors, has to be at the forefront of our event. At this stage, with so much uncertainty around the pandemic, we cannot guarantee we can produce a show of our usual quality, joy and atmosphere, without compromising that safety.

We are a small team. We are proud to host an inspiring celebration of sculpture, design and craft in stunning gardens, set in a small, quiet community. To bring large numbers of visitors in at this time would be unfair to many.

Co-founder and chairman of Fresh Air Sculpture, Lucy Abel Smith writes “It is only when faced with the dismantling of Fresh Air Sculpture 2021 that the reach of the exhibition becomes apparent. The impact for the curators, the artists, the caterers, the tents and amenities and this year most of all, the loss of the education programme at a time when teachers and children are thirsting for the wonderful workshops in these remarkable surroundings taught by a great team of tutors. This is to say nothing of the enjoyment of our many visitors. We are feeling crushed. However, we aim to use what we can of our preparations for this year to lay the foundations for June 2022”.

We are optimistic that we can deliver a Fresh Air Sculpture show in 2022 to delight our regular visitors and draw new visitors in, all eager to soak in unique and original artworks and our beautiful gardens. The revised show dates will be Sunday 5 June – Sunday 26 June 2022.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support and we look forward to welcoming you to the show next year.
